Secure Trust Bank – Spotlight on Innovative Approach to Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion

Secure Trust Bank is a British retail and commercial banking group. The organisation was founded in 1952 and is made up of approximately 855 employees.

Challenges

Scores tallied in accordance with enei’s Talent Inclusion Diversity and Evaluation (TIDE) TIDE programme  scores and colleague feedback indicated a need for increased efforts to enhance awareness regarding the diverse communities within the organisation, as well as the necessity to solidify a clear understanding of the organisation’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) vision.

Innovative actions

In response to identified needs, the organisation strategically emphasised education and senior sponsorship for allyship, notably launching a colleague-produced podcast during National Inclusion Week. This podcast, characterised by its informal and discussion-based format, explored diverse topics such as bisexuality, Afro hair, disability, and IVF, providing a platform for colleagues to share authentic lived experiences and promote a more inclusive work culture.

Evidence of impact

The podcast, now deeply ingrained in the organisational culture, plays a pivotal role in Secure Trust’s ED&I strategy. Aligned with significant dates, such as Diwali and International Women’s Day, it adds depth and meaning to these occasions.

The podcast fosters collaboration within teams, encouraging them to explore and advance diverse topics with identified guests. Its impact is evident in heightened awareness of the diversity within the colleague population.

In the context of hybrid working, where social conversations are reduced, the podcast serves as a medium for colleagues to listen to candid discussions, fostering connections and contributing to Secure Trust’s vision of being a successful and inclusive business.

Uplifts observed in the annual engagement survey can, in part, be attributed to the influential role played by the podcast series and act as a barometer for ED&I progress.
