Remembering a powerful human rights advocate

On 21 March 2023, to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the campus flags at York University in Ontario, Canada, will be lowered to half-mast in honour of Professor Emerita Evelyn Kallen, who died on 5 February.

Dr Kallen was Professor Emeritus of Social Science and Anthropology at York University and wrote extensively on the subject of human rights, social change, race and ethnic relations, religion and ethnicity, ethnicity and identity, as well as racism, hate propaganda, multiculturalism, and public policy. She was also the mother of enei’s Chief Executive, Sandi Wassmer.

We at enei would like to acknowledge the life of this incredible woman, as much of our work and values have been inspired by her unflinching commitment to defending human rights, human beings and true equity for all.
