Noteable dates

  • Black History Month – October’s Black History Month in the UK, first celebrated in 1987, highlights the fundamental yet often overlooked contributions of African and Caribbean communities, offering a chance to share, celebrate, and understand black heritage and culture.
  • International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – This is commemorated annually on 21 March and unites global communities against prejudice while celebrating the diverse tapestry of humanity.
  • National Windrush Day – This is a commemoration in the United Kingdom held on 22 June to honour the contributions of African-Caribbean migrants to the post-war economy.
  • Race Equality Week – Established in 2020 by Race Equality Matters after George Floyd’s murder, Race Equality Week is an annual event dedicated to confronting workplace race equality barriers and reinforcing organisations’ commitment to inclusion.
  • South Asian Heritage Month – Commemorated from 18 July to 17 August, 2024 and established in 2019, SAHM celebrates the impactful contributions of South Asian communities to the UK.
  • World Afro Day – This is celebrated annually on 15 September and tackles hair discrimination, empowering individuals with Afro hair.
